PACKING POINTERS
Before actually packing up, you need to have
a game plan. For Example:
Pack one room at a time. This will help you
when it comes time to unpack.
Pack a couple of cartons a day, starting well
ahead of your move.
Mark all boxes, designating room and box
number. Make a carton identification log to
show the number of boxes packed per room,
and the total number of cartons packed. It is a
good idea to leave space in your log for a special
comments section to note carton conditions or
location of high value goods. Notify HDL of any
high value items.
Fill containers to capacity. Partially full or bulging
cartons may tip or collapse. It is a good idea to
have plenty of “filling” material on hand.
Be sure that all cartons are securely closed and
will hold the weight of the contents.
Pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box
and lighter items toward the top. Try to keep a
per-box weight of 50 lbs. or less; it makes moving
a lot easier. A general rule to remember on carton
size -- the heavier the item, the smaller the carton.

PACKING DISHWARE
Wrap all kitchen glassware in clean packing
paper. This eliminates having to rewash
everything once you unpack. Dish packs work
very well. They fit a serving of 12 in each box.
The box fits 3 different inserts, one for full size
plates, serving bowls, tall vases or pitchers and
platters, one for dessert size plates and bowls,
and one for stemware, cups, and saucers.
Wrap your dinner plates in clean packing paper
one at a time. After you have wrapped two of
them you may stack one on top of another and
wrap them together in another sheet of packing
paper. Stand plates on end to travel best. You
will get 12 plates across the bottom of the box
with room for other bowls, pitchers, vases or
platters. Delicate cups, like china, should be
stuffed with crumpled paper and wrapped
one at a time.
Delicate glassware and stemware should be
placed in an upright position, not in its side.
No matter what you are packing, you should use
crumpled packing paper or peanuts in between
each layer to assure a snug fit wherever there is
a gap. All boxes with fragile items should be
marked accordingly.
