Moving
We have been doing OUTSTANDING, CAREFUL household moving service since 1989 and have always received a high referral rate from
our customers. We'll move your household belongings anywhere in Wisconsin
or the surrounding states. We have recently added connections to move you anywhere in the country and internationally.
Explore the following links we've provided to help you with
your move.
Estimate

If you are interested in getting an estimate, call or
E-mail our office
and talk to our friendly, helpful staff.
We will ask you a series
of questions - some information we would need in order to give you
an accurate estimate:
• Square Footage of your home
• Number of rooms or specific items you may want to move.
• Moving origin and destination
• When you plan on moving.
Our rates depend upon manpower & equipment
required to get your job done efficiently and safely. The cost you’re
quoted may vary if a different crew size or more or less equipment
is necessary to complete the job properly.
For an average - 1200 sq.
ft. or less home - typically we would move with a three man crew and
our 26' moving truck.
Extra charges may be incurred for unusually large or heavy items or
unusual circumstances.

Booking
If you have received an estimate and wish to book a move, contact
HDL and we will fit your move into our schedule.
Depending on the season, we may book up about 2-4 weeks in advance.
The end of the month are the quickest dates to disappear.
If you have a large job, we suggest you call us as soon as possible
to secure a move date. Smaller jobs may be scheduled within a week
or two.
Packing
We can provide packing assistance if you need help. Call our office to ask about packing options
Preparing
HDL does not bring along ground cover (wooden planking or old carpet pieces) for our crews to walk on. If your yard is not complete and
the only path to get into the house is dirt, mud, etc… Please be prepared to furnish ground cover if necessary.
Please have all paths, sidewalks or driveways that the movers may be using, cleared of snow, boxes, toys, debris, etc. for safety reasons.
This will also save valuable moving time. Additional fees may be incurred if paths are not cleared.
We can provide indoor carpet protection at your request. Our moving crew carries this in the truck with them
at all times, if you are interested in having them use it, just ask.
We ask that you have trimmed all low hanging branches that may be in the way of our 13' tall trucks.
We ask that all animal cages, bird baths, dog kennels and crates, etc. be clean upon move date or we cannot transport them.
We will transport grills, if clean, but not propane tanks.
Any larger or odd shaped articles that are of any value to you or breakable such as lamps, pictures or wall mirrors, should be cartoned
before moving day. We offer a wide variety of boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, etc. This will save you valuable time looking for
packing materials. You are responsible for having everything properly boxed and taped shut and ready to go when the movers arrive. HDL will
not be responsible for damage to anything that is not boxed and taped shut. DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE OR MASKING TAPE. HDL will refuse transporting
any open boxes or items not properly cartoned, not taped shut, or not stackable.
The Day
Once the movers arrive at your home, they do a walk-through of the
house. This allows them to see what is going or staying, get a feel
for the layout of the house, furniture, etc. and to go over any last
minute details, changes or instructions.
The movers may dismantle such items as beds, mirrors from dressers,
or any doors that need to be removed during the moving process.
Loading is the longest and most tedious part of the moving process. The
first things loaded are appliances and anything large and square.
Such as dressers, desks, bookcases, entertainment center, etc. These
large, heavy items form the base in the moving truck. Your belongings
will be wrapped in heavy duty moving pads and tied securely into the
truck. This assures nothing is shifting around in the truck during
transport. The movers then build from that base with boxes and lighter
weight items (note: Boxes must be taped securely closed in order to
stack properly) Tables, chairs, beds, etc. go in the middle of
the truck. Sofas or stuffed chairs go towards the back. Any yard,
garage or outdoor items go in last.
After transporting your goods to the new home/destination the truck
is unloaded. Unloading the truck takes about half as much time as
the loading does. Someone should stay near the truck to instruct the
movers as to where to put things in the new home (note: it is helpful
to have boxes labeled as to which room they go to). The movers set
things where they belong and will put the items back together that
were dismantled before returning to our shop.
Payment is required IN FULL once the move is complete, and before
the crew leaves for the day. For details, see Completion .
Completion
Once your move is complete all costs are due in full before the movers leave that day.
Payment Types
Payment can be made by Cash, check, money order or Certified Check. Credit Cards are not accepted for moving charges.
Tipping Etiquette
We suggest the guidelines below, but adjust as necessary considering
the following criteria:
$20 - $50 per person is appropriate, for large and difficult moves.
This includes, but is not limited to:
• Stairs
• Long Walks
• Small Elevators
• Narrow Doorways
• Odd Furniture or Appliances
• Large Heavy Boxes
$10 - $20 per person is appropriate for small moves
- one to ten items and only for regular sized items or boxes - nothing
too heavy.
Decide whether you want to give a lump sum tip to the whole crew (they
take care of splitting it) or if you want to tip each mover individually.
These are just suggestions, not requirements.
